Summary

WunderKitty Dream House is a zany, 3D stealth platformer with both single-player and co-op modes, taking players around an enchanted house on a quest to get access to the ONE FORBIDDEN ROOM while Zaza and Pom-pom, (your very sleepy new parents,) take a nap. Play as one of 7 playable rescue cats (and 1 very good dog.) Use your special SKILLS and work around your SPILLS. Avoid noise traps, distractions, fight bugs, and try not to get too agitato. But don’t wake your parents up. Or else you’ll get the spray bottle and have to start all over!

Background

I started working on the concept, Game Design Document, and a single level concept as part of my 12-week Intro to Game Design course at CG Spectrum. But WunderKitty Dream House is actually the next evolution of Naughty Kitty Kibble Heist, a board game concept I began to explore in the first intro to game design class I completed, offered by CalArts through Coursera, which challenged players to traverse a real-world kitchen to reach a bag of crunchies on top of the fridge without waking their mom.

But when presented with the question, would it be more interesting for the world of the game to be our normal world, or a weird, trippy world? I decided to opt for the latter, sticking with the core idea of a mischievous, colorful, wholesome romp through a house with various platforming and puzzle elements, and abilities that make for great solo and co-op play, but turning to psychedelica and surrealism, and inspirations such as the work of Mexican architect, Javier Senosian, and 1977 Japanese horror film House for visual and tonal inspiration.
